Shotokan Karate is a practice of Mind, Body & Spirit through the art of mastering self-defense. The training involves reflecting upon self-capacity and mindfulness on the ability to overcome barriers. USKU England is a member of the Universal Shotokan Karate Union (USKU) International Federation.
Are You looking for yourself or your child?
At USKU, We conduct classes for both categories. We accept children who are over the
age of 05. And there is no upper age limit or any requirement of age, ethnicity, race, or
religion at USKU.
How Often Should I Practice?
Ideally, it is advisable to engage in training with us twice a week and we encourage you to take our training home and do it at your motivation.
Will I get hurt during practice? If I do, how is it handled?
We maintain a safe and positive training environment & we have minimum injuries.
Why should I start Karate?
Karate is a lifestyle that promotes a healthy, mindful approach to life. The art form involves tiresome physical exercises, strength training & learning self-defence.
It will assist you in your physique, positively contribute to your lifestyle & enhance your confidence. Karate will provide you with a unique perspective in both mind and body.
Is Karate suitable for all genders?
Yes. We have mixed classes where everyone trains at the same time. We have senior female students who will assist you. We do not have a female or male-only class as of now.
Why Must I bow?
Bowing is a form of conveying respect. In Japan, bowing is considered a sign of mutual respect, eloquent personality and maturity.

Shotokan Karate is taught in primarily three forms: Kihon, Kata, and Kumite.
Kihon (基本, きほん)
Kihon is the Japanese term that translates to “fundamentals”. Kihon (basics, punches, kicks, and blocks) is beneficial as it is considered the foundation for many martial art styles.
Kata (型 or 形)
Kata refers to the choreographed pattern of martial arts movements made to be practiced alone.
Kumite (組手)
Kumite is the part of Karate in which a person trains against an opponent (Sparring). You can pursue which style you want to pursue. Our sensei will guide you in your journey.
How old should a child be before starting Karate?
We undertake anyone over the age of 05. Your child’s safety will always be the top priority.
Do I need to understand the Japanese language to study Karate?
We conduct classes in English. However, you will be taught the required Japanese terminology for grading.
What should I wear? Is there special equipment or gear?
We encourage newcomers not to invest in special gear or equipment right away! Wear something you’re comfortable with. Most of our new students wear T-shirts, shorts, or tracksuits. Once You enroll with membership, you can obtain the special karate outfit (Gi).
I have previous martial arts training. Will that affect me in any way?
We assure you it won’t. However, you may experience a value-added capability in both martial art forms.
Can I come to observe?
Of course! We have plenty of seating space for anyone to come and observe. However, we expect discipline from spectators.
I have previous experience in Karate & I have a belt. Can I restart?
If you are a member of USKU or any Shotokan Federation, you can start with your current grade. If you trained in another Karate style, You must face a grading test. Or You have the option to enrol as a white belt.
Can I train in other forms of martial arts while learning Karate?
Yes, you can. However, we expect strict adherence to our disciplines and culture when you’re training at our dojo.

Classes are conducted by Sensei Waseem. Who is a Black belt 4th Dan.
What is the atmosphere like?
We maintain a welcoming, peaceful atmosphere where discipline and mutual respect are praised in the highest form. We encourage you to push your limits while focusing on your safety. Our senior students will be eager to assist you, and our sensei ensures every student gets individual attention.
How soon do students spar?
We will not urge or enforce any student until they are ready to spar.
Can I get into shape by taking Karate?
Yes. The rigorous routine, unique exercises, and choreography will assist you in getting the physique you want.
